루이스의 인과에 대한 반사실적 접근

국문 초록

인과에 대한 반사실적 접근은 인과 이론이 갖추어야 할 요소들을 구비하고 있는 것처럼 보인다. 루이스가 20여년 이상 동안의 연구를 통하여 보여주었듯이 반사실적 접근은 인과를 연구하는데 필요한 형이상학적 요소뿐만 아니라 방법론적 요소와 의미론적 요소를 구비하고 있다. 루이스의 이론은 1973년 이래로 네 번의 진화 과정을 거쳐 1999년 화이트헤드 강연에서 제시된 반사실적 영향으로서의 인과 개념에 도달했다. 루이스의 인과 이론의 진화는 주로 선점 문제를 중심으로 이루어졌다. 이 글은 루이스의 최근 이론인 인과적 영향 이론이 이전 이론들에 비하여 적응도가 더 높지 않다는 점을 주장할 것이다. 또한 루이스의 주장과는 달리 인과적 영향 이론이 인과적 연쇄 개념에 기반을 둔 이전의 이론들에 비해 선점 문제를 더 잘 해결할 수 없다는 점을 주장할 것이다.

영문 초록

It seems that counterfactual approach to causation has necessary elements which are demarcation criteria for the academic theories of causation. As shown through D. Lewis' last twenty articulation, his counterfactual approach to causation has the methodological, semantical as well as metaphysical elements for a causation theory. Lewis' theory of causation has arrived the notion of causation as counterfactual influence as a result of four stages evolution since 1973. The evolution of Lewis' theory of causation has the center of the problem of preemption. In this paper I shall show that Lewis' recent theory doesn't have higher degree of adaptation than its previous versions. And I shall argue that earlier versions based on causal succession can solve the problem of preemption than the theory of counterfactual influence.
