국문 초록

매체는 사회적 의미를 갖는 내용이자, 새로운 사회 질서와 의사소통체계를 의미하는 메시지이다. 따라서 매체의 변화란 곧 우리 인식체계의 변화를 의미한다. 조선은 근대적 기계매체의 도입으로 매체 변화에 직면한다. 이는 곧 인식체계의 변화를 의미한다. 특히 전화매체는 당대 사회상이나 사람들의 욕구 변화와 맞물려 지속적으로 발달해 왔다. 근대 이후 개항과 함께 새로운 문물이 조선에 유입됨으로써, 서사는 매체라는 새로운 소재를 통해 당대를 반영하는 역할을 하였다. 전화매체는 모티프 차원에서 문학작품에 수용되거나, 서사담론의 차원에서 그 특성이 수용되어 왔다. 본고는 염상섭의 <전화(電話)>ㆍ이기영의 <고향>을 중심으로 문학작품에 드러난 전화매체의 인지ㆍ소통 양상에 주목함으로써 문학이 전화매체를 어떻게 반영하고 있는지 확인한다. 매체의 유입에 따른 사회변동을 문학작품이 어떻게 반영하는가를 살피는 작업은 곧 매체가 한 사회의 인식체계에 어떤 중요한 영향을 미치는가에 대한 논의이기 때문이다. <고향>에서 전화가 가진 '호출'의 기능은 '규율 훈련용 미디어'라는 정치적 의도로 활용되었다. 전화가 개인의 정치적 욕망을 실현하기 위한 '호출'의 도구로 수용된 것과 달리, <전화>는 '호출'의 기능을 거부함과 함께 전신 매체에 함축된 제국주의의 '무작위식의 근대화 정책'을 직시한다. 근대 문물에 대한 직시는 곧 전화라는 전신 매체를 거부함으로써 일제 식민정책에 대한 무의식적 저항으로 이어진다.

영문 초록

Media has social meaning and the message that the new social order and communication system. What is the change in the media means a change in the recognition system. Thus, changes in the media field, we soon recognized means of system changes. With the introduction of modern mechanical media, Chosen Nation faces media changes.
