영문 초록

This study examines the use of Korean demonstratives, ‘저, 저기, 저기요, 여기요’ and focuses on the semantic functions ‘저, 저기, 저기요, 여기요’ which are widely used in conversation through 25 episodes of drama scripts. Furthermore, the similarity and difference of the uses between the Korean and Chinese demonstratives are determined by observing the Chinese words, ‘这, 这个, 那, 那个’ corresponding to the above usage. The words, ‘저, 저기, 저기요, 여기요’ are not handled much in study of demonstrative words whereas they are often used in actual conversation. They are mostly introduced as interjections, discourse markers, or exclamations. In this study, these expressions appeared as a variety of functions of reference, discourse, addressing, and their meaning expands with the addition of function of addressing words to the referential function, or the referential function disappears and there occurs transfer of meaning to the function of discourse. It was investigated that the corresponding Chinese demonstrative hold function of discourse whereas the function of addressing are not used for. (Pusan National University)
