영문 초록

This paper analyzed the effect of global outsourcing on the wage differential in manufacturing in Korea during 1999-2006 period with data obtained from the Survey of Mining and Manufacturing, Input-Output Table and SKTC trade statistics. Since China joined the WTO in 2001, the amount of outsourcing from Korea’s manufacturing to China has increased. This had led the demand for production workers to decrease while the demand for office workers increased, which caused the wage differential between those to increase. However, rising wage differential due to increasing outsourcing was a short run phenomenon. In the long run average wage of production workers had risen persistently. The effect of outsourcing on the wage differential did not spread evenly across the industries. Wage differential got bigger in the low skilled labor intensive sector that had higher tariff rates and low outsourcing rates.
