영문 초록

As Confucious put final achievement to becoming a sage(聖人) through the teaching(敎) and the learning(學), Yul-Gok also tried hard to realize his ideal certainly all the time in his life. As it were, Confucious aimed at not only becoming a sage and a wise man(君子) but also realizing benevolence(仁) through the education and the learning. In the same way, learning viewpoints of Yul-Gok set up a sage as Confucious, and so he made a great point of according with the scholarship and virtue. The first stage in the Dohak thought theory of Yul-Gok put to the decision of purpose in life(立志), the second stage hold the self-culture of human through learning, the third stage set to the social realization. The theme of the main discourse is self-culture theory of Yul-Gok, which is summarised to reverence(居敬), deliberation(窮理), strenuous efforts(力行). This is self-culture and learning method of the Neo-Confucianists in the Sung(宋) dynasty, however Yul-Gok possess specific qualities. Namely, he lay emphasis on decision of purpose in life first of all, and the following put stress on strenuous efforts. Because he take practice seriously more than others. In the last analysis, Yul-Gok was a Dohak thought theorist thoroughly, a representative of the Neo-Confucianist currenting in the Chosun dynasty. In addition, he contributed largely to be in taking a triangular position of the Neo-Confucianism in the Chosun dynasty. Also his Dohak thought theory is applicable to the education, indoctrination and administrations(經世). To actualize his these aims, Yul-Gok tried to take practical results through the power of education and the development of culture movement.
