In the Korean peninsula, there are 270 stone lanterns. Those have three parts which are the stereobate, the body of pagoda and the top ornament. The oldest stone lantern exists in the Mirrek temple that was built early 7th century. Whenever scholars study about prototype of Korean arts crafts and stone arts, they are apt to consider that the origin of Korean arts came from China. Because China imported Buddhism earlier and built many Buddhist architecture. However the study about Chinese stone lanterns hasn't introduced to Korean scholars.
This paper study about the Dongja temple's(童子寺) stone lantern, the Bubheng temple's(法興寺) stone lantern, the Sekwo(石牛寺) temple's stone lantern and the stone lantern that is exhibited in Xianyang Museum(咸陽博物
館). After study about Chinese stone lanterns, this paper compare the Chinese stone lanterns with the stone lanterns that were made around 7th~8th century of Korean peninsula.
