영문 초록

Relatively little research has been undertaken on host community reactions to tourism development in former slave trade sites. Using the social exchange theory, thi s paper sought to investigate residents’ perceptions of tourism development in Danish-Osu, Ghana. the study employed a mixed methodological approach that included in-depth interviews, focus group discussions and face-to- face interviews with household heads. It was found that residents’ support for tourism development is affected directly or indirectly by their socio-demographic characteristics. This suggests that the general analyses of social exchange theory could be applied to the perceptions of residents of Danish-Osu towards tourism development.
