This paper was to compare the enlightenment reflected in 『Mujeong (Heartlessness)』written by Lee, Kwang Soo with the enlightenment in 『Kwangin Ilgi(Insane Person’s Diary)』 written by Rho Shin with the viewpoint of comparative literature. Those two works were concentrated on encapsulation for inspiring modern enlightenment, which were revealed from the consciousness of two writers. They adopted fictitious factors for configurating self consciousness of characters in their works based on their personal experience.
There are some difference in describing status of the characters in their works. While Lee, Kwang Soo tried to instill the readers to be enlightened by using forthright preaching language through pioneer of elite, Rho Shin tried to configurate a character who could resist negative ideology through an insane who is an abnormal character of low rank. It can be inferred that this kind of difference of expression between the two writers was based on the different of the two writers. Lee, Kwang Soo thought himself as one of modern intellectuals who were leaders, but Rho Shin emphasized that he was not a hero nor leader.
Also, the difference of enlightenment of the body and insanity was found between the two writers. First, In 『Mujeong (Heartlessness)』, the modern recognition of body was expressed. The new marriage ethics Lee, Kwang Soo presented was that a man and a woman who are in love each other were married and grew into one with sound and pure body. However, In 『Kwangin Ilgi(Insane Person’s Diary)』, anthropophagy which has been spreading for thousands of years and will of insanity which overcomes anthropophagy were confronted with an extreme sadness.
The recognition of changing improper society was a common interest for the two writers, but there were some difference over their approaches toward the change. While Lee, Kwang Soo emphasized social change through education, Rho Shin presented humanitarianism of compassion and affection for human beings as a methodology of social change.
