Since the Digital Textbook Project started in 2007, there has been a great deal of development in the area of digital textbook in Korea. It has been announced that the Digital Textbook will be disseminated to schools by 2013. For this plan, pilot studies have been conducted at elementary schools to investigate the effectiveness of the textbooks. This study examined the features and the functions of the textbooks to check if the textbooks were well developed in terms of two instructional principles: constructivism and interaction theory. The results of the analysis indicate that the digital textbook includes many convenient features and makes possible for learners to interact with resources as well as their peers and teachers. The study concludes that for successful implementation of the textbook into the schools, future research on the instructional model of the textbooks and on-going technical supports from the government need to be done.
