There have been many studies on the strategies to increase the number of Chinese tourists, but studies are still insufficient with regard to attracting them to Gwang-ju and South Jeolla province. The fundamental ways to attract Chinese tourists is not far from those to attract general tourists. However, specialized strategies are required in that China and South Korea are geographically adjacent and share the similar cultural basis in the Chinese character cultural area.
This study provides a couple of ideas which are related to adequate marketing activities to attract Chinese tourists effectively and specialized strategies targeting China as a new tourist market. In this study, those ideas are classified by such three sectors as policies and institutions, facilities and infrastructures, and service and marketing. The strategic ideas are specialized to the local situation in that Chinese tourist market is an important one of the new higher value-added businesses in Gwang-ju and south Jeolla province.
