국문 초록

장르의 해체 및 표현매체의 다양성과 더불어 현대도예는 점차 다원화되는 양상을 보이며, 작품 읽기에 있어 전통적인 틀을 벗어난 새로운 접근방식이 필요하게 되었다. 최근 인간 중심의 ‘몸(body)’을 통한 현상학적 공간 개념은 새로운 시대, 공간을 해석하기 위한 적합한 수단으로 다루어지고 있다. ‘현상학(phenomenology)’의 대표적인 철학자 메를로-퐁티(Merleau-Panty)는 인간이 주체가 되어 살아 있는 경험 속에서 인간과 공간이 서로 상호 얽힘을 통하여 주어지는 공간을 제시하고 있다. 그가 지적하는 공간은 물리적인 요소로 구축되어진 단순한 공간이 아니라, 신체지각 개념을 동반하는 움직임에 의한 체험적 공간이다. 움직임은 인간을 주체로 신체지각을 구체화시키는 표현 요소이자 공간인지의 자극이라고 볼 수 있다. 본고는 현대 도예의 다양한 양상을 작품에 내재된 움직임의 표현 방식 중심으로 유기적 형태, 탈정형적 오브제, 비물성 요소와의 결합, 우연성에 의한 질감(texture)효과, 퍼포먼스를 통한 상호작용으로 분류하였다. 이는 오브제 자체의 형태적 특성으로의 접근, 흙 본연의 물성 또는 비물성화, 퍼포먼스 등 신체와 공간의 관계 맺음을 통한 인터랙션으로 요약할 수 있다. 본 연구는 현상학적 접근에 의한 움직임의 표현과 그에 부합하는 사례분석을 통하여 신체의 감각과 지각을 활성화 시킬 수 있는 다양한 표현 가능성을 모색하고, 물리적으로 불변한 도예 작품에 현상학적 공간 지각개념을 도입하여 움직임을 표현하는 이론적 기반 및 방법론을 제시하는데 주안점을 두었다.

영문 초록

As conception of space expands and various media emerge, contemporary ceramic art appears to change and expand continuously instead of staying, and traditional ceramics no longer explain various styles and techniques of contemporary ceramic art. In this situation, the phenomenological conception of space through human-oriented ‘body’ is considered as a suitable way to translate new era and space by breaking from the existing standard conception. Merleau-Ponty, a representative thinker of phenomenology, suggested space through interlacing human with space in lively experience that human was an agent. The space that body exists becomes the empirical space through movement with somatosensory conception. rather than the simple one built by physical components. Therefore, movement is the human-oriented component to embody somatic senses, and it brings spatial experience and becomes stimulation of spacial cognition. Hence, this study divides expression methods of movement in works by analyzing various cases of contemporary ceramic art as follows: Firstly, the organic type which represents curved and flexible flow and keeps a structural balance with regular proportions and rules feels unique dynamic. Secondly, unfamiliar sense of ex-formal objects gives a stimulus to us who are trapped in a routine, enlightens the subconscious and expands the range of spacial cognition from the audience. Thirdly, combination of immaterial components such as light, sound and air combined with objects overcomes the limit of physical space and vitalizes the senses from the audience. Fourthly, the effect of texture from chance of soil, base of ceramics, draws vitality through tactile and extempore expression. Lastly, the expression method which derives interaction with audience through performance promotes vitalizations of various kinesthesia and perception through active involvement the audience. This study aims to seek possibility of various approaches and expression to vitalize senses and perception of body through analyzing movement by such phenomenological approaches and related cases and to research theological base and methodology to express movement by introducing phenomenological conception of space in physically unchangeable and formal ceramic works. In the future, the study is expected to set the stage for various research and expression methods for movement in contemporary ceramic art.
