영문 초록

This study applied stochastic frontier analysis to data on Malaysian hotels from 2002 to 2004 to decompose total factor productivity (TFP) growth into technical progress (TP) and technical efficiency change (TEC). The study also identified the factors that determine each TFP component. For this time period, Malaysian hotels operated at an average efficiency of 41%, and average TEC, TP, and TFP growth were -0.057, 0.183, and 0.070, respectively. Thus, TFP was driven mainly by TP, and plagued by a deteriorating TEC. The most important determinants of TEC were training, employing university graduates, foreign ownership, and outsourcing, while those for TP were capital stock and the educational degrees of employees.
