The article deals with philosophical, anthropological and theological foundations of Comenius´ concept of tolerance. The work of John Amos Comenius manifests a philosophical attempt to achieve an agreement on the true doctrine without submerging cultural and political differences. Grasping the world as a whole, an effort to integrate all parts of the universe in one unit becomes the main focus of Comenius´ work. Especially his ideas about mutual cooperation and peace among races, nations and religions show deep philosophical search at the turn of the Renaissance and modernity. For Comenius, true tolerance cannot exist without true friendship, love, honest cooperation and social solidarity. In the middle of all the conflicts in the 17th century, his conception of tolerance would solve not only the problems of his own time but would also head towards the strenghtening of all positive values of humanity, individual as well as social, and towards the universal reformation of everything.
