Okso Kwon Seop(1671~1759) was an active poet in the middle of the Joseon Dynasty. He was an artist who showed his outstanding talents in versatile fields such as poetry, prose and calligraphy. This study aims at defining Okso's literal theory that becomes the essence of his art and literature. Okso was a traditionally educated man. He thought he could follow Sama Cheon and Han Yoo's styles in writing his prose. He respected Jin Yeo-Eui of the Song Dynasty of China and Park Eun of the Josun Dynasty as the most outstanding poets. This tendency is strongly connected with his literary point of view. His literary perspective agreed with Theory of Cheoon Gi (Theory of the Secrets of Nature) popular in the world of poetry of his time. He insisted on Theory of Cheoon Boon (Theory of Natural Endowments), so he believed only those who are endowed with talents could write poems. If each poet could create his or her own work appropriate for his or her talents, it would achieve the perfection in his or her work. He asserted it is the best poem when the images and contents of the work can be felt realistically like 'a shadow' or 'an echo' while you read it. This is so called 'Theory of Impact', which is Okso's unique opinion and the most significant theory among his literary point of views. Based on this idea, he said we should keep the traditions when you compose a poem or prose and try applying a new way of expression at the same time. Still, with the uncomplicated expressions you should make readers understand your work easily. It is the most important trait of his literary perspective. Okso's 'Theory of Impact' is his own distinguishable literary point of view that cannot be found from other contemporary writers or critics with him.
