접사의 화용적 기능 설정에 대하여

국문 초록

일반적으로 파생접사는 어기와 결합하여 새로운 단어를 형성할 때 어휘의 지시적 의미나 문법적 범주를 변화시키는 기능을 한다. 그런데 일부 단어들에서 이러한 변화를 수반하지 않는 어떤 형태가 계열적으로 덧붙여져 나타나는 것을 볼 수 있다. 여기서는 이들을 일종의 파생접사로 보고 특히 그 출현의 동인이 화자에게 있는 것으로 설명하고자 한다. 즉 어기의 지시적 의미나 문법 범주는 유지하면서 어떤 대상에 대한 화자의 감정이나 태도, 의도, 평가 등이 파생접사에서 실현될 때, 이들을 화용적 기능의 접사로 보는 것이다. 이처럼 접사의 기능을 확장하여 화용적 접사로 인정한다면, 결합 전후로 어기에 대한 변화의 방향이 불분명하거나 그 정도가 미미하여 설명이 어려웠던 형태들을 접사, 특히 파생접사로 설명할 수 있게 될 것이다.

영문 초록

The role of derivative affixes, in general, is to form a new word by changing the meaning or the grammatical category of a stem. However, there are affixes which do not make such changes. This study considers those affixes as a sort of derivational affixes whose distributions are conditioned by the intention of speakers. The affixes have pragmatic functions to express feelings, attitudes or judgments of the speakers, without making any changes to the grammatical categories or the meanings of stems. If the definition of derivational affixes is extended to encompass those pragmatic affixes also, the affixes, which were not easily explained due to their unclear functions, can be identified as derivative affixes.
