One prefers Compound Word or Derived Word to simple words, when a new concept needs to be indicated. It is because words related to the existing terms are more understandable than isolated simple words. Between Compound Word and Derived Word, the previous one is preferred as Compound Word may present more various concepts by combing two or more Bases than Derived Word does. Derived Word is restricted in its usage by confining objects or conditions to low. In this study, the researcher analyzed the meaning of Derived Suffix and
anticipated what sort of Derived Suffix is frequently utilized to form words. In Section 3, the suffix composed of 'sino-korean base + -이(i)' was clarified. A common meaning of words with suffixes such as '-장이 (jangi)/-쟁이(jεngi)', '-동이(dongi)/-둥이(dungi),' '-방이(bangi)/-뱅이(bεngi),' '-지기(jigi) is lowering down. In practice, the common meaning of lowering down was showed up when a new word was created, and a particular attribute according to the original meaning of sino-korean words was manifested. In Section 4, the researcher studied suffix with 'Noun Base+ -이(i).' Unlike cases in the previous chapter, this words seem to become suffix
after noun was formed. '아지(aji)' is used only as a suffix in modern korean language. Though the suffix, '아지(aji),' indicates originally 'young of animal,' it would be used more to lower an object. '-아기(agi) is itself used as a noun. However, if '-아기(agi)' is used as a suffix, it implies a meaning of 'small' or 'immature.' Besides that, some of nouns made of '-아지(aji) or -아기(agi) might be used as a suffix with negative meanings.
