대한제국기의 『중등용기화법(中等用器畵法)』 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 1908년 오영근에 의해 편술․발행된 『중등용기화법(中等用器畵法)』의 내용분석을 통해 근대시기의 중등학교에서 이루어진 미술교육의 내용 및 성격을 고찰하는 데에 목적이 있다. 그간의 한국의 근대미술교육사 연구는 주로 초등미술교과서의 변천과정을 고찰하여 시기별로 미술교육의 특징을 도출하거나 당시의 교육실태 등을 파악하고자 한 것들이 대부분이다. 하지만 중등학교에서 이루어진 미술교육의 내용 및 교과서에 관한 연구는 거의 없는 실정이다. 이에 본 연구자는 한국의 근대화 과정에서 도입된 용기화교과서의 도입 및 그 내용을 검토하고자 한다. 특히 일제강점기에 접어들기 직전에 발행된 오영근의 『중등용기화법』은 한국인 개인저자에 의해 집필된 교과서였다는 점에서 주목된다. 『중등용기화법』의 주된 내용은 평면기하화법이며, 구체적으로는 용기화법의 정의, 점.선.각 및 형의 정의, 제도용(製圖用)기구의 종류와 사용법, 직선에 관한 화법, 원에 관한 화법, 곡선형에 관한 화법, 면적에 관한 화법, 비례에 관한 화법, 상사형(相似形)에 관한 화법, 축소 및 확대의 방법, 지구의(地球儀)화법 등을 다루고 있다. 이러한 『중등용기화법』의 내용분석은 근대시기의 중등학교에서 이루어진 용기화 교육의 성격 및 도안교육 내용을 파악하는데 중요한 단서가 된다는 점에서 본 연구의 중요성이 있다.

영문 초록

This study aims to illuminate the content and nature of art education at middle school in the modern era by analyzing “Mechanical Drawing Techniques for Middle School Education”, a book authored by O Yeonggeun in the Daehan Empire period. Research on modern art education in Korea mostly relied on the art textbooks of elementary school to understand the characteristics of art teaching and educational issues of the time. However, little research used the art education and textbooks of middle school. Therefore, this researcher wanted to analyze mechanical drawing textbooks that were selected by Japan after the modern school system was established in Korea. It is worth noting that the textbook was written by a Korean individual named O Yeonggeun just before the Japanese colonial rule was started. The book, whose main subject was plane geometric drawing, also specifically covers: the definition of mechanical drawing techniques; the definition of dot, line and angle; the types and usage of drawing tools; and drawing techniques for straight lines, circles, curves, volume, ratio, similar figures, reduction/enlargement and globes. The value of this study lies on the fact that the analysis of the book’s contents provides critical base to know the nature and design education of the art education taught in middle school.
