국문 초록

말더듬 출현율에 관한 연구방법에는 첫째, 특정한 지역이나 학교에 거주하는 아동 부모와의 인터뷰를 통한 조사방법, 둘째, 특정 연령에 해당하는 연구 대상자들에게 직접 설문지를 돌려서 자기보고를 통해 분석하는 방법, 셋째, 훈련받은 평가자들이 일일이 대상자들을 면접해서 조사하는 방법이 있다. 선행연구들에 따르면 각각의 조사방법에 따라 그 결과들은 매우 상이하게 나타났으며, 연구의 목적과 규모에 따라서 연구방법에 차이가 있었다. 본 연구에서는 우리나라 초등학교 아동 대상의 말더듬 출현율 연구에 있어서, 아동 스스로 자기보고에 의한 방법과 아동의 학급 담임교사를 대상으로 조사한 방법을 비교함으로써 차후 우리나라 초등학교 아동들의 전반적인 말더듬 출현율 연구의 방법론적 기초를 확립하고자 하였다. 따라서 초등학교 담임교사 및 아동들을 대상으로 말더듬 유무 및 정도, 특성 등에 관한 설문조사를 실시하여, 각각의 보고에 의한 출현율을 성별, 학년별로 비교하였다. 또한 스스로 또는 교사에 의해 말더듬이라고 평가된 아동과 그렇지 않은 아동간에 의사소통태도에 있어서 어떤 특성을 보이고 있는가를 비교하였다. 그 결과에 대한 논의를 통하여 향후 말더듬 출현율 연구방법에 대한 고찰을 하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to compare two methodologies for the study of pre- valence of stuttering in the elementary school students: the teachers’ evaluations and children’s self-reports of their stuttering problems. Questionnaires were used to collect the data, concerning the existence, severity, and characteristcs of stuttering. Forty teachers participated in evaluating 1270 students and 289 children each of the second, fourth and sixth grade answered the questionnaire about themselves. The teachers’ evaluations and students’ self-reports were compared in terms of sex, grade, and school. In adiition, the communication attitudes of the children were compared between children who were not evaulated as stutterers and the children judged stutterers by the teachers. The results of the current study suggested that the prevalence of stuttering could change depending on the specific survey method. The results were discussed in terms of the characteristics of the two methods, that is, teachers’ evaluation and children’s self-report.
