It is well known that half of the porcelains of Korea was produced in Sangju area, Kyungbuk province at the early period of Chosun dynasty. And white porcelains were made out in this area at the middle and late period of the same dynasty. We are going to have a experimental survey by way of using fragments of porcelain made in olden times in this area. There were not enough data about porcelains' ingredients so far. This will be the first try to know it. 1. Porcelains found at Whahyun-ri bears the brightest and one found at Whangrung-ri bears the dullest color. That is, whiteness chroma of Whahyun-ri's porcelain was clearer than any other kiln sites' products. Color chroma of porcelain collected in Shinam-ri appears high in b+color chroma(belong to yellow color). The other porcelain's color chroma appears similar in color. Reflective degree of porcelain's surface appears the highest in whahyun-ri's sample scrap which bears the brightest in color. The brown porcelain collected in Shinan-ri's A kiln site's No.5 and Whangrung-ri's kiln site No.4 shows rising contour at 590μm level which belongs to yellow and orange color region. 2. Most of the porcelains seems to be baked in non-oxygen condition, but some of them are baked with oxygen, with little oxygen, and non-oxygen. In this experiment it is proved that porcelains produced in Sangju area in Chosun dynasty used three methods, that is, baking with oxygen, without oxygen, and with little oxygen. It appears in making process that most of the chinas which are low in absorption rate are baked with non-oxygen, but some of them are baked with little oxygen. Therefore we can conclude that porcelains produced in Sangju area in Chosun dynasty intentionally used the non-oxygen baking method.
