This article deals with 1910s novel by looking at the current living environment’s accommodation aspect, the principle of constituent family, and the process of inner development It analyzes how these characteristics gets exposed to assume self thesis. For example, BiPahSeong engages the process of using convenience of a current civilization and the process of getting a job at a company as a fully grown adult. From this processes, protagonists restore family-oriented patriarchy and establish one self as subject of traditional ethic. Although they survive through hardships in order to keep the marriage engagement, this is just a link in a chain of desire to succeed the family. Family becomes existential on public space and it is very far from the desire to expand the family romance. GeumGookHwa(gold-chrysanthemum) is similar with BiPahSeong as traditional ethic plays an important role in the narration of family restoration, but common idea of obedience from the novel is specifically based on 1910s Joseon, temporally and spatially. As the protagonists yearn to achieve family romance, the parent generation’s sin is internalized within the child generation’s pain. Although new inner self is developed through it, one becomes an adapt subject due to the superego of traditional ethic called obedience. Therefore the family romance which protagonists form, summons ‘obedience’ as an imaginative community and restructure a family system and role. On the other hand, Moo-Jeong(Heartless) clearly divides the traditional generation through orphan’s consciousness. This novel’s inner self-reflection becomes an important axis of narration. Thesis is not about following external ethics code, but rather about creating value through ration and emotion. The protagonist’s inner self is full of accumulated ‘Bildung’(Culture) and desire to complete one’s individuality. But completion of ‘Bildung’ repeatedly gets pushed back, and subject experiences embarrassment due to deficiency. This can evolve as an opportunity to recognize empire’s authority. Also, orphan‘s consciousness, society without adults, becomes a source that designate a youth as nation’s core, and their desired family romance is connected with imaginative community called nation to create nation-wide commonness.
