국문 초록

본 논문은 최근에 들어와 미국에서 활발하게 연구되어지고 있는 커뮤니티 중심의 미술교육에 대한 의미와 역사 그리고 교육실천 가능성들을 탐구하는 것이 첫 번째 목적이다. 필자는 먼저, 미국의 여러 미술교육학자들의 교육철학과 그들의 역사적 시각을 통해서 ‘커뮤니티(community)’란 개념과 ‘커뮤니티 중심의 미술교육(community- based art education)’이 무엇인지 알아보았다. 그리고 다양하고 포괄적인 의미의 CBAE을 올바로 이해하기 위한 모형을 만들기 위해서 공동체주의 담론, 사회재건주의, 탈구성주의 담론(Deconstructivism), 그리고 후기구조주의 담론(Post- Structuralism)의 관점들에 입각하여 커뮤니티 중심의 미술교육을 네 종류의 작은 범주로 다시 분류하였다. 이 논문의 두 번째 목적은 국내에 커뮤니티 중심의 미술교육의 이론적 기반을 제공하고 또한 미술교육자들이나 학자들이 관심과 열정을 가지고 앞으로 지속적으로 그 교수-학습법을 연구하고 실천할 수 있도록 토대를 마련하는데 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine definitions, histories, and possibilities of implementing community-based art education which is popularly being researched in the field of art education in the United States. This study firstly defines the meaning of the term ‘community’ encompassing the most vague and diverse meaning and then explores the concept of community-based art education through many art educators and scholars' philosophies and in historical perspectives. Secondly, this study grounded in Communitarianism, Reconstructionism, Deconstructivism, and Post-structuralism makes a model to understand well the various and comprehensive educational strategy of CBAE. Community-based art education called an umbrella term is categorized by four sub-groups such as local society-based art education, ecology-based art education, ethnic-based art education, and virtual community-based art education based on the model to closely look at the practical possibilities. The other purpose of this study is to find out papers related to community-based art education in Korean journals such as Art Education Research Review and Art Education Review to know what kinds of contents being studied from 1985 to 2008, to provide Korean art educators and scholars with theoretical foundations of community-based art education, to encourage teachers to engage with communities as source of knowledge and pedagogy, and eventually to help them make invisible histories of community-based art education in Korea visible.
