The formation of hands skill makes the humanity. If it was able to be formed hands skill by the standing erect and the use of tools, the expression of hands or body in sculpture has developed with hands skill, tools, and history. A sculptor makes hands with his hands. This fact is not making hands simply, but symbolically expressing the language and the culture involving hands. The symbol of hands and the language are various according to the difference of culture. It is naturally reflected in the human body sculpture. The plastic parts of hands in the human body sculpture are divided into the perfect harmony of the human body, the strength of the rhythmical composition effect, the expression effect with curved lines, the character destination in the theme model and the space, the expression of creation and life, the decision of the whole composition focus and movement direction and the various expressions of power and emotion. It effects that these plastic parts of hands are expressed one thing or several complicatedly in a work. I will distinguish the expression aspects of hands in the human body sculpture works. There are many cases of expression. For example, sculptors make hands and arms simplified as a mass; they eliminate hands with making a mass involving arms or with uniting arms into body; they express surfaces or lines and surfaces for arms and hands; they emboss hands on the body as a relief. Then the level and effect of hands expression are equal to them of the human body expression. It is significant that the works made hands as a subject in Rodin, Moore, Ce`zar, Kwen Jin-gue, Kang kwan-ook and so on set the sculpture arts free from the insistences by the usual subjects and culture, the general concept of the human body sculpture and the modification of customary expression. Thus the hands can not only be the parts of body but a modeling object by themselves. Therefore these hands sculptures can be the experiments leading the new plastic goodness and the capability of expression.
