The objective of this study is to explore and evaluate the `ego-intersubjectivity` in emotion and morality in modern poetry in Korea. For this, I turned to moral and metaphysical approaches, in particular sin, `shadow` as well social vice.
Seo Jeong-ju`s poetie ego, far from fighting against Shadow, rather shows internal contradiction which is affected by its seduction, he gives up fighting against shadow, Yielding to camalism himself. Yu Chi-whan‘s though he has a strong will to resist the Shadow through the precess of bringing it out, comes to nothing, ruining and tormenting himself. Bak Du-jin`s, though he has a strong will against social vice, fails in repenting it and loving all humanity. And Gu Sang`s has succeeded in finding and overcoming the cause of vices.
Why have their fightings resulted in different aspects? This study evaluates their metaphysical dimensions. Seo‘s stops short in the state of Shamanism which is by no means salvation. Yu`s Schopenhaunerian Buddhism, and Bak`s Old Testament-biased Christianity has the limitation for salvation. Only Gu Sang`s ego will be the salvation for our nation and all humanity through Christianity. His poetry creates a poetics of harmony and interaction which all humanity becomes one in belief, hope and love.
And these four poets, especially Cu San, suggests the ego-intersubjectivity in emotion an morality in modem poetry in Korea
