경찰관 자살에 관한 사회심리학적 요인 고찰

국문 초록

  경찰관은 스트레스를 많이 받는 직업이며, 대인관계와 사회적 단절이 심각한 수준이고 근무환경에서 자연적으로 얻게 되는 냉소적인 성향과 흑백논리의 사고체계로 인하여 사고의 유연성이 제한될 수밖에 없다. 또한 수없이 많은 죽음과 부상을 목격하거나 경험하며, 이러한 직업상의 특수한 경험과 함께 총기를 비롯한 무기류의 휴대 때문에 자살의 가능성이 매우 높은 직업이라고 할 수 있다.
  이 연구에서는 경찰관이 자살을 선택할 잠재적 가능성에 관한 사회심리학적 그리고 행태적 취약성에 대해서 고찰하여 보았다. 특히 경찰관들이 갈등을 해결하는 행태의 체득과정 즉, 사회화 과정을 통하여 얻게 되는 행태적 특성이 자살의 가능성을 더욱 높여주게 되며, 경찰관이 자살이라는 극단적인 문제해결 방법을 선택할 가능성을 높여주는 요인으로서 경찰 역할과 관련된 요인들을 살펴보고자 하였다.

영문 초록

  The purpose of this study is to presents the process how police social roles effects socio-psychological susceptibility and increase the potentiality of police suicide. This work is based on professional socialization process which predispose officers to a specific police behavioral role as the principle strategy for dealing with life strains.
  Police roles my be described as an inventory of behavior patterns used to respond to work situations. In this study, the researcher suggested two factors associated with the police role which may increase the potentiality of police suicide. The First factor was the use of dichotomized thinking way such as "black and white thinking way" when dealing with stressful situations or problem resolution. And the second factor was the diminished use of multiple roles to deal with strained social relationships.
