This paper aims at a functional examination of the function of muscles for the purpose of aesthetics, and a better understanding of myofascial pain syndrome. It also attempts to investigate the relationship between myofascial pain syndrome and Meridians, and to contribute to the development of programs for the treatment and process of massage therapies for the maximization of the efficacy of aesthetics, by employing clinical myology. Myofascial pain syndrome is kind of muscular pain, and, according to the objective and concrete studies of anatomy, it shows a symptom that a trigger point occurs within soft tissues, such as muscles and fascia. A trigger point is a sensitive point in a firm band that exists in skeletal muscles or fascia. When it is pressured, it shows related, an autonomic symptom, a limit of the scope of extension, the relapse of pain in the muscle that was attacked previously, and local twitch response when it is stimulated, etc. The forms of myofascial pain syndrome include those that are active, latent, primary, gastric, and secondary.
The relationship between myofascial pain syndrome and meridian belongs to the theory of meridian-muscle, and a trigger point is identical with Ashi-point. While Ashi-point is characterized by a pressure point, a trigger point has a taut band in addition to a pressure point. When there is an inttaocular pressure on a trigger point, local twitch response and related pain appear. It is similar to the diagnosis of the manual acupoint of oriental medicine, given the standard methods of diagnosis, like a taut band, local twitch response and related etc.
The desire of human beings for becoming more beautiful led them to endeavor to supplement their weakness and to emphasize their strength instinctively, which was the origin of aesthetics. Aesthetics currently emerged as a new field of study, as the methods of early aesthetics, based on experience and instinct in pursuing the beauty of individuals, dramatically developed into the knowledge on the characters of skin and the relationship between the structure and function of skin for the past five decades. Accordingly, there has been a great deal of research on new methods to take care of the beauty of human bodies. In the 21st century, society has become more and more complicated and mechanized, and the problems like the pollution of environment in modern society seem to lead people to feel the instinct of returning to the nature, and the need of skin care. It seems that the interdisciplinary cooperation between Aesthetics and Alternative Medicine. In particular, the concept of therapy can be employed in performing massage in the field of Aesthetics. This means that the performance of massage therapies for the tranquilization and relaxation of muscles can prevent, and take care of, any pains or discomfort with muscles, i.e. myofascial pain syndrome, or a drop in physical functions caused by stress. Such massage therapies work by neutralizing the effect of stress on human bodies and activating the feel, and when combined with the treatment of skin that releases the discomfort with muscles, by performing finger-pressure therapies on the basis of the theory of meridian-muscle among the theories of meridian, they can become a shortcut to the proposition of Aesthetics, that is, healthy beauty. It is possible to apply the traditional oriental medical treatment of myofascial pain syndrome into the methods of the therapy of stimulating spots on the body suitable for acupuncture, manipulation, qigone(physical and breathing exercise), acupuncture etc. Further applications are also possible by using various meridian apparatus, electronic stimulation equipments that use electronic energy, the development of massage therapies through manipulation, well ness massages through the control of breathing, aroma therapies, limp drainage, acupressure therapies, reflexology, hydrotherapies using a spa, and
