영문 초록

  This study is designed to investigate the intonational cues produced in the grammatically ambiguous sentences. The utterances of English native speakers and Korean English learners are recorded and analyzed based on the intonational phonology. While English natives distinctively realize phrasal accents or boundary tones according to the meaning of sentences, Korean speakers have difficulties in producing phrasal accents or boundary tones at the proper position. Korean learners of English should be taught the fact that the phrasing is not merely a breathing time but an important intonational cues for interpretation of sentence.
