This article is on the basis of a historical nationalism in Iran about the process of establishment and the downfall of a short-lived the Kurdish Republic of Mahabad.
The Kurdish movement in Iran in the period after World War Ⅱ is one of the most significant events in the development of Kurdish nationalism. The dream of the Kurdish people for independent state in Mahabad of Iran was realized on a small scale from December 1945 to December 1946.
Yet from the outset, the Mahabad republic was flawed by the absence of cohesion. The Kurdish leaders had almost no political experiences at that time. They could not mobilize the Kurdish masses of no political consciousness and state. The Kurdish Democratic Party was not well-organized political party. The party was unable to offer a comprehensive program for the Kurdish Republic it was still an organization with many tribal ties.
The rise and fall of the Kurdish State at Mahabad must be researched within the context of Soviet Union expansionist policies in northwestern part of Iran, where the Soviets might take a pressure the Tehran government into granting them economic concessions, especially oil. For Soviet Union"s sake, the Moscow government helped create a Kurdish State in Iran and probably would have favored setting up an independent Kurdish State in the Kurdistan under Iran, Iraq, and Turkey"s reign.
The Mahabad Kurdish State exercised authority about one-third of Iranian Kurds and lasted exact one year. But it has remained the point of reference the Kurdish movement throughout the Midddle East, during the Mahabad republic"s existence, many of the Kurd"s aspirations came true.
