This study aims to elucidate Alternation of ending ‘a/?’ in multi-syllable stem from the data in several sub-dialect. Some phonological processes making a difference in derivational form when the number of stem-syllable is not alike. If phonological inputs are not different, one and the same phonological processes can apply to them. But in spite of same phonological environments, if the number of stem-syllable is different, derivation of phonological processes can make a difference; Alternation of ending ‘a’ in korean phonology fall under phonological processes showing extreme constraints in derivational process when the number of stem-syllable is not alike. this constraints are as follows.
a. tad?m+a/?→tad?ma b. t?d?m+a/?→t?d?m? cf. t?l+a/?→t?r?, tad?m-(15c)
Alternation of ending ‘a’ in stem composed of more than one syllable, such ‘tad?ma’, ‘t?d?m?’ is related to vowel harmony of formal the times: whereas vestige on vowel harmony in sub-dialects exist much in south-western dialect, north-western dialect, and north-eastern dialect. it scarcely exist in middle-dialect and south-eastern dialect.
