영문 초록

  The main focus on this paper is how exactly the spirit of Ahimsa in Buddhism can be the fundamental ethics for EcoBuddhism, and furthermore the solution of overcoming the current ecological crisis. In this paper, I approached this issue from two aspects. First, among the ecological alternatives demonstrated by the spirit of Ahimsa, the relationship between the consideration for animals in the Buddhist tradition and animal liberation currently under debate in ecology will be discussed. Second, I clarified the characteristic of the spirit of Ahimsa of Buddhism compared to that of Hinduism and Jainism. For the concrete example of this clarification I explored the problem of Ahimsa and Meat eating in the early Buddhism in relation to the Buddha"s rejection of the caste system in India.
