국문 초록

  본고는 함경도 출신의 유학자 ？洲 朴琮(1735~1793)과 그의 백두산 유람 기록인 〈白頭山遊錄〉을 주목하여, 당주 박종에 대한 문학적 조명과 아울러 〈백두산유록〉의 작품적 성과를 확인하였다. 〈백두산유록〉은 함경도 鏡城에서 출발하여 18일에 걸쳐 1322리에 달하는 여정을 기록한 것으로, 출발할 때부터 그날그날의 여정 및 견문과 감상을 날짜별로 기록한 일기체 기행문이다. 당주는 백두산으로 오르는 여정 및 주변의 풍물을 사실적이면서도 유려한 필치로 자세하게 묘사함으로써 현실감을 더하고 진실성을 확보하였다. 더욱이 백두산의 풍광을 체험하면서 그 속에서 사물의 근원이치를 궁구하는 등 사색적이고 철학적이기까지 하다. 한편 그는 함경도의 토착민으로 북방의 산천 형세에 정통했을 뿐만 아니라 지속적인 관심과 애정을 지닌 결과, 백두산을 유람하면서 주변 곳곳의 형세를 세심하게 관찰하고 국경 수비사의 문제점을 지적하고 그 해결책을 제시하기도 하였다. 또 부역으로 고통받는 민의 비참한 생활상을 적실하게 드러냄으로써, 민에 대한 애정과 유자로서의 의식을 표출하였다. 이처럼 〈백두산유록〉은 백두산을 유람하면서 체험한 승경과 산천의 형세를 사실적으로 묘사했을 뿐만 아니라, 역사와 지리적인 사실까지 두루 폭넓게 수용하여 그 내용을 풍부하게 만들었다. 그런 만큼 〈백두산유록〉은 산수유기가 지녀야 할 요건인 情景ㆍ議를 두루 갖춤으로써 작품적 성과가 크다. 그러므로 당주 박종의 〈백두산유록〉은 백두산 유람기록의 걸작으로 평가하기에 손색이 없다.

영문 초록

  This paper is focused on Dangju Pak Jong(？洲 朴琮: 1735~1793) and his 『Paekdusanyurok(白頭山遊錄)』. Pak Jong traveled around Mt. Paekdu as a schloar from Hamkyeongdo and recored about it’s landscape.
  He started from Kyeongsung in Hamkyeongdo and it took about a thousand three hundred twenty two ri for eighteenth day. 『Paekdusanyurok』 is a record for travel which was written travel’s distance in daily, information and appreciation. and He guaranteed a truth and actuality by describing landscape around Mt. Paekdu with skilled touches in detail.
  In addition, he is even a thoughtful and philosophical because he studied a basic principle of things in appreciating landscape in Mt. Paekdu. on the other hand, he not only had many information about mountains and streams’ features of the north area as a son of the soil from Hamkyeongdo, also had steady interest and love about it. In result, he indicated problems in defending frontiers and came up with an answer after he observed things in Mt. Paekdu in detail and he expressed his consciousness as a scholar and love for the people by properly exposing a wretched life feature of the people that were suffered a corvee.
  Like this, 『Paekdusanyurok』 was realistically described a landscape and mountains and streams’ features around Mt. Paekdu and had abundant many contents with widely accepting even a historical and geographical fact. so 『Paekdusanyurok』 was enough to be called a excellant sansuyugi(山水遊記) that well had feeling[情]ㆍa scene[景]ㆍan argument[議] in which will be basically equipped.
  Therefore, 『Paekdusanyurok』 by Dangju Pak Jong was one of the most great work from among recording about Mt. Paekdu.
