It used to be of a great importance how the police properly assist and protect the domestic violence victims, especially in the stage of preliminary investigation. It is just because the effort to meet the domestic violence victim"s needs has a great effect on victims" rapid recovery from the impact of crime and securing their personal safety from the intimidation of the offenders. We can call this whole process as “Crisis Intervention" which is handled by police investigators for victim protection in domestic violence cases.
The classic police response to domestic violence was a “do-nothing” approach or temporarily separating the parties until the abuser cooled off. But such a police response has resulted in critical threatening of victim"s personal safety for a long time. Therefore, police should try to improve the classic police response system so that they could protect the domestic violence victims successfully.
The police officers" initial response at the crime scene has been greatly influenced by the legal circumstances of each country. With this reason, it is necessary for us to research into the legal environment surrounding police organization. Due to these causes, several suggestions for the revision of the on-going ‘Domestic Violence Special Act’ and ‘Police Authority Enforcement Act’ are proposed.
The practice of these recommendations will be able to respond to the domestic violence crime scene more effectively and produce such a good result for the police investigators to get the credibility from all the people including the criminal victims.
