영문 초록

  Purpose: This study was designed to investigate the utilization of cancer information on internet by the patients and their caregivers. Method: During August 1, 2003 to August 22, 2003, the data was collected by survey through off-line and on-line. The off-line survey was done with 17 patients and caregivers. The on-line survey was conducted by E-mail communication with 66 patients and caregivers. Result: 79% of participants used internet everyday, and 18.1% visited cancer-related web site everyday. The majority(88.0%) visited the cancer sites via internet search. Selection criteria of cancer information was rated by participants in the following order: scope and depth of content, accuracy of content, readability, use of graphics or multimedia, interactivity, currency of information, credentials of site owners, ease of use, quality seal and third party endorsements, loading time, purpose of site and intended audience, and design and aesthetics. 58% of participants regarded the cancer information on internet as credible. 57 % of participants said that the cancer information on internet was very/somewhat useful. Conclusion: The study suggested the demands of participants for cancer information on the internet that should be considered in filtering good-quality information and developing the cancer information on internet.
