In this thesis, the father who is the source of the suffer in Border was not seen as the fixed substance but reflected the process of the substitution of "real father" as the new object connecting the periodic circumstances. In the reality of raging waves of the economic power, the United State in late 1950s, the ambition of economical independence of President Junghee Park in 1960s, and Revitalizing Reform in December, "Colonialized consciousness and decolonial will" was deduced from the "transforming image of the father" depending upon the absolute power.
Just after father"s crossing over into the North Korea, the characters internalized the consciousness of the adoptive son calling the United States as new father who supported enormously. This pro-United States attitude, however, is the primary factor of the internalization of submission toward American empire. Moreover, it is perceived that there exists a huge crack between the adoptive and the colonial mother nation. The next step is that recognizing their own peripherality newly as their source of resistance breaking through the American centralism. Myunghoon"s house building, Younghee"s speculation in real estate, Inchul"s story are endowed them who live in perimeter instead of American empire with values as new patriarches. In mid 1960s, it was the period when the ambition of independent economy was surging because of the decrease of support from the United States. The attitude which recognizes the peripherality as the source of resistance, however, can be taken advantage of as materials adhering non-Western as the peripheral. The effort of becoming the patriarch by themselves ended in the negative result confirming the colonialism consequently. If the ‘real father" is the source of coloniality, he should be denied. Therefore, the ambition toward the real father could be perished completely in the consciousness of the wanderer as the rootless existence. Myunghoon"s anti-government struggle and his death, Younghee"s conversion, and Inchul"s writing novels are used as the materials to perish the colonial ambitions.
The subordinity of outsider is not given but having been made. Real modification of the course can not be expected in Border where they set their targeted identity as real father in the inside of the power and try to adjust their recognition and behavior there. If the resistance came from the new power, the desire toward the new real father, it can be it the real resistance. Therefore, in Border, the process of changing the real father continuously is not in fact by the resistance but rather the conspiration of the power and found many new possibility in coloniality. In this respect, the Border shows very clear subordinity toward the colony but the autogeny of decolonity has the task to conquest untransparent limits.
