The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between participation in leisure sports activities of middle and high school students and pro-social behavior. For accomplishing this purpose of the study, the 320 subject were selected by the stratified cluster random sampling method from the students in 16 middle and high schools located in Kyoung-gi do. The survey questionnaires were used to collect data. The questionnaire for the pro-social behavior scale was developed by Eisenberg(1989) and standardized in Korean language by Yang, Jin-Sook(1991).
The statistical methods utilized in this study for analyzing the collected data were reliability analysis, descriptive statistics, Chi-Square, one-way ANOVA, analysis of covariance and standard multiple regression analysis using Windows용 SPSS/PC+ 11.0 Version. From the analysis of this study, the following conclusions were obtained:
Firstly, the type of participation in leisure sport activities of middle and high school student"s is partially different by the mothers" educational level of socio-demographic characteristics, and the events of participation in leisure sport activities of middle and high school student"s is partially different by sexuality, fathers and mothers" educational level of socio-demographic characteristics. And also, the degree of participation in leisure sport activities of middle and high school student"s is partially different by the sexuality, school level, fathers and mothers" educational level of socio-demographic characteristics. The pro-social behavior of middle and high school students is partially different by the school level, family income, fathers and mothers" educational level of socio-demographic characteristics. Secondly, the pro-social behavior of middle and high school students are different by the type of participation in leisure sport activities. In detail, the participants in leisure sport activities are more pro-socially than non-participants. The pro-social behavior of middle and high school students are different by the events of participation in leisure sport activities. In detail, the participants in team sports of leisure sport activities are more pro-socially than individual personal participants. The degree of participation in leisure sport activities influence on pro-social behavior. In detail, the longer the participation in leisure sport activities, the higher the pro-social behavior. The more frequent the participation in leisure sport activities, the higher the pro-social behavior.
