The purpose of this study was to suggest scientific training method and exercise prescription by evaluating the difference of isokinetic muscular strength at 60deg/sec(5 repetitions), power at 180deg/sec(5 repetitions), endurance at 240deg/sec(30 repetitions) of shoulder, elbow, knee and trunk flexion and extension, as well as ipsilateral ratio between collegiate baseball players and general university students.
Fifteen collegiate baseball players and fifteen volunteered male students(control) were measured using Cybex 770 dynamometer. Unpaired t-test was performed for comparisons. Due to the possible injury, trunk endurance test at 240deg/sec was not performed.
Peak torque and peak torque%body weight values in baseball players were superior to general students but not for peak torque ratio in antagonists of upper limb. And average power and average power%body weight values were superior and accel time values were shorter in baseball players. Also, endurance ratio values were greater than general students. Especially, endurance ratio of shoulder extension in baseball players were greater than general students significantly.
Imbalance of muscular strength in antagonists was caused sports injuries.
Therefore, we concluded that scientific and systematic training for improvement in muscular strength of shoulder and elbow flexor is needed.
