영문 초록

  Psychologically speaking, the different ways of recognition and sensuality acts may produce different values and ways of thinking from country to country and from culture to culture. The aim of this study is to examine the aforementioned differences involving the Korean language and Arabic language with special focus on the color dimension. The two languages may employ different expressions and narrations related to colors. This reflects the way in which the two peoples have different sensual perception and recognition. To this end, the study collects color terms usages from Korean and classical Arabic. It moves on to make comparisons of meanings derived from the basic color terms usages (white, black, red, yellow, green and blue) in the two languages. This study is designed to shed some more light on similarities and dissimilarities in terms of language conceptions and expression structures between Korean and Arabic. This study shows that both of the Korean and Arabic basic color terms have basic and derivational meanings. A close examination of derivational terms shows that the two languages produce dissimilar meanings as many as similar meanings. It follows from this that particular social and cultural factors give rise to derivative meanings between the two languages.
