This thesis recognizes, at the beginning, that in order to achieve the humanization of women, it is important to overcome the consciousness of sex discriminations internalized in the process of women's socialization, to get rid of male-oriented sexism, and to have women's consciousness improved with their systematic cooperation.
This thesis, then, tries to comprehend current educational activities of Korean women's organizations, to research into and analyze the impacts of the activities upon consciousness-raising of women, and to present basic data for future establishment of desirable educational programs by women's organizations.
This thesis also tries to analyze the educational activities of women's organizations and to examine the attitudes of the participants toward the educational programs and the consciousness of sex discriminations on the part of the participants. A questionnaire was used for the purpose of the research.
The result of the research shows that
(1) 89% of 52 women's organizations conduct their educational programs.
(2) Most of the participants joined the programs for self-development.
(3) Most of the participants had their consciousness changed at the end of the educational period, they felt.
(4) The change was effected most in self-awareness and personal relations among the participants.
This thesis, in view of the findings of the research, proposes the following for the direction of the future educational programs by women's organizations.
(1) The educational programs should be more directed to the improvement of women's status and the humanization of women, which are the intrinsic goals of women's organizations.
(2) The educational programs should be organized in a more consistent and systematic way.
(3) The consciousness-raising programs should be conducted with a view to overcoming sexism and to establishing women's positive and independent identity.
(4) The women's organizations should take an active role in politically reflecting women's standings.
(5) The current educational programs for women should be established and supported at the levels of governmental and social systems.
