국문 초록

교사의 전문성은 절대적인 기준이나 자질로 정의될 수 없는 것으로 사회적이고 맥락적인 접근을 필요로 한다. 이에 질적 연구방법을 사용하여, 미술을 가르침에 있어 요구되는 전문적 능력을 교사들의 언어와 경험을 중심으로 탐구하였다. 전문성에 관한 문헌들의 조사를 통하여 본 연구 주제가 내재적 본질에 관한 것이 아닌 사회학적 현상임을 고찰하였고, 우리나라 미술교육 연구에 있어 교사 전문성에 관한 문헌들을 세 가지 범주로 나눠 개괄하였다. 본론에서는 일상적인 교수행위와 교사들의 의사결정이, 개인의 가치관뿐만 아니라 학교, 사회, 문화의 맥락적 요구들에 대한 교사의 해석을 반영하는 것으로 보고, 교사의 관점에서 정의되어지는 미술 교사의 전문성을 ‘창의적 사고’, ‘의사소통’, ‘평가’의 주제들을 중심으로 논하였다. 본 연구는 미술교육의 이론적 지식과 현장적 경험을 종합적으로 다루고 전문성에 관한 논점을 다각화하였다는 데에 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

The meaning of professionalism in education, which cannot be defined through a list of positive standards or dispositions, should be examined in the context of social and cultural situations. This study uses qualitative research methods in order to explore professionalism and competence required in teaching of art from the teachers' perspectives. The literature review delineates the notion that this research question is not about the intrinsic nature of art teaching but about social phenomena. In addition, the conceptual background is presented through categorizing the discourses on art teacher professionalism in Korea. The discussion of this paper is focused on how art teachers define and explain what is needed to teach art. The art teachers' teaching practices and decision-making processes are viewed as the reflection of the teacher's interpretation of the needs of school, society and culture. Based on data collected from in-depth interviews with two highschool art teachers, three themes, ‘creative thinking’, ‘communication’ and ‘evaluation’ have been developed and elaborated. The significance of this paper can be found in that it attempts to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical experiences as well as in that it provides multi-layered perspectives on the issue of professionalism in art education.
