The study on the Children's literature during the post-liberation period(1945-50) has still many areas to search and research. From that point of view, this article is to discover unknown magazines for children and to find out positively Children's literature at the time; based on that, the Children's literature in Kyungnam and Pusan is focused on.
Over thirty kinds of magazines for children were published during the time; as many as in other times. These magazines advocates for "the Children's literature movement". The movemnet resulted in two strands; one was reality-oriented, the other innocence.
『Saedongmu』(New Friends), 『Byulnara』(Starland), 『Adong Munhak』(Children's Literature), 『Adong Munhwa』(Children's Culture), 『Jindalae』(Azalea), and 『Adong Gurakbu』(Children's Club) belong to the first one. Writers for these magazines were the members of 'The head quaters for constructing Chosun literature' or 'The Union of Writers'. Although they didn't show their extremely leftist and agitative tone in the magazines, they strongly intended to orient children's heart to the reality.
The right wings during the time were not organized. They oriented innocence of children. 『Saessak』(Green sprouts), 『Sohakseang』(Grade schooles), 『Adong』(Children), and 『Eorini』(Children) belong to their literature. These magazines held the nationalistic features, showing the educational aspects for building the new country which was the biggest task for the time.
Children's literature during the period was active in local areas. Especially Kyungnam and Pusan had played a great role since the colonial days. Thus, in this article these areas are focused on. And the well-known and new writers at the time and contributions by teachers and children were closely examined.
Joo-hong Lee who had led the local literature on behalf of leftist children's literature since the colonial days, Heung-seob Eom, Go-song Shin, Seok-jeong Park, Dae-woo Nam, and Won-su Lee tooke the lead. Through them a new tradition of the children's literature in this area was established.
After new writers published their works, the children's literature in this area radiated a different tint. Won-ryong Kim and Gye-rak Choi made a great effort to express their own voice. Contributions, especially by children, were made through out the whole region.
They continued the tradition which their forerunners made. The children's literature of the post-liberation period is another precious literary treasure to us. This article could be a stepping stone for the further study because it presents a general picture of the tradition of children's literature in the area and the children's magazines in the post-liberation period; roughly though.
This could increase the interest in the children's literature and expand the scope of the study on Korean children's literature.
