영문 초록

Hosumjon(호섬전) is one of Korean classical novels with allegorical structure. It describes about the satirical fight between tiger and toad on the street. Comparing with their strength, tiger is overwhelming and superior to toad, but toad finally wins against tiger's threat with his wisdom and wit. Hosumjon is generally known as it's written in 1907. It compares weak Korea to a toad and politically imperialistic power to a gigantic tiger on the ground of historical viewpoint at that time. It expresses that it's afraid of Korean future with 'anxious hope', Hosumjon written by a calligraph-brush can be presumed whose writer is by rear record between paper and paper. I guess that its writer must be 'Yun Eungyul' and 'Yun Sibyoung' with various evidences and materials. However. it's very difficult to identify who is a real writer between two wrIters. I studied the style of allegory, satirical expression and contemporary interest as a literary characteristic of Hosumjon. I found the writer's attitude that he recollected his intellectual consciousness with pessimistic attitude, facing the tragic destiny of falling motherland. I think Hosumjon is a valuable classic to be studied by us.
