영문 초록

This paper investigated the performance of folk ballads in Jeonnam district. The method of performance could be divided into three occasions, i. e. the work-songs, the game-songs and the ceremony-songs. In occasion of the work-songs, people sang the folk ballads working inside and outside by the several way of singing, i. e. a solo, the succession song, etc. The folk ballads were created as the new form mixed the narrative words with the lyric or the descriptive words. In occasion of the game songs, they sang the folk ballads dancing or beating the water bowl or bow with the tune of Ganggangsullae and Dungdangaetaryeong. Finally in the occasion of the ceremony-songs, they sang the folk ballads in the funeral ceremony. As the result of this study, we could know that the folk ballads are not fixed in a function. They have several functions and show various methods of performance. The ideal and the purpose of studying the folk ballads are to succeed them in the present life and arts. In order to do that, we should investigate the transmission aspects of folk ballads precisely and search the methods to recreate them as the contemporary performing arts.
