This study tests Agnew’s general strain theory and assesses whether strains have a major role in explaining delinquency and their effects can be mediated by negative emotions. In addition, this study examines a conditional hypotheses whether the strain-delinquency relationships is conditioned by several factors such as attachment to parents, commitment to school activities, exposure to delinquent peers, attitude toward violence, and self-control. This study tries to apply a theory for understanding violent responses to strain. This study measures a situational anger in interpersonal conflict situation and tries to find the effects of strain and anger on violent delinquency. These results support a general strain theory. Results show that strains in family, school, and neighborhood increase violence in conflict interpersonal situation and their effects on violence are mediated by a situational anger. In addition, it is revealed that the effect of anger is conditioned by attachment to parents and exposure to delinquent peers.
