영문 초록

The purpose of this article was to review Samsaenggiyeon which was popular at the end of 18th century, and to review the dramatized motivation as the later adaptation. Following are the results. Samsaenggiyeon focused on the loyalty related conflicts of the hero and marriage of hero and heroine. The characteristic of this work was that it allocated much to internal agony of the hero and the pains and difficulties of his family emphasizing the conflict. Additionally, it put much importance on the course of marriage using the flute(Tungso) as a medium. It considered marriage as the completion of the Karma that Heaven designated. This course is the mental recovery course of the hero, too. Therefore, it is the embodiment of the human attachment, the truth behind it and its recovery. It was dramatized in 1910's and performed as a Korean Musical (Changgeuk). It was selected among many classical novels because it showed the emotion of people under Japanese governance as an allegory. It seemed that the popular style had appealed much to the audience at that time. It has a very important meaning as a later adaptation of classical novels in the history of literature.
