Just three times researches can't completely reveal whole new year's day customs of six hundred thousand Korean Japanese. This study is completed from the data of the first research, and so might not be perfect.
Also, there are possibilities that the Korean Japanese may keep a distance from strangers at first and just show some parts as much as they feel comfortable.
Although there are some variables like the above mentioned, what I am sure is that traditional Japanese customs have influenced on the Korean Japanese new year's day customs heavily.
A forktale research worker, Kim Wha Kyung said that in the tale transmission Korean Japanese have been affected by Japanese but also they have kept strict watch against being the same with Japanese. In the case of new year's day customs, it is hardly found that.
On new year's day Korean Japanese also prepare SIMENAWA,
KADOMATSU, KAGAMIMOCHI, OSECHI ZOUNI and go to HATSUMODE and enjoy MAMEMAKI in February, HINAMATSURI in March, KOINOBORI and iris flowers bath in May, TANABANA in July, OBON in August, have pumpkin gruel taken on the winter solstice in December, TOSIKOSISOBA on the last day of the month, which is easily founded among Korean Japanese.
Even someone having strong ethnic identity has accepted these traditions without resistance. Especially on OTSUGEN and OSEIBO giving presents to business acquaintances, customers and kind people who have been showing favor during a year is repeated among Korean Japanese. Living in Japan, Korean Japanese had to have a good relationship with Japanese- not a matter of ethnical concern but a matter of an adaptation to the new circumstances- and these are a natural consequence. And these can help Korean make harmony and coexist with Japanese without serious troubles through historic occasions.
Performing ancestral rites and rice-cake soup on new year's day, adzuki bean gruel taken on the winter solstice have been stubbornly transmitted and coexisted with Japanese traditions. There are a strong will to keep ethnical identity following Korean traditions and activities by Korean Buddhists which should not be ignored the effect and need more researches.
