Traditionally, manufaturing performance in a firm has been evaluated with input/output measure such as efficiency. However recently studies shows that other measures relating to the corporate competive strategy and corresponding strategic variables in the manufaturing task are important in business performance. So this article emperically shows that an important factor in corporate success is the degree of congruence between corporate competitive mission and manufaturing task.
Corporate competitive missions and manufaturing task were categorize by the sum of squares differences between respondent's expressed important scores and those of closest mission and task profiIs which were suggested by Richardson, Taylor and Gordon. Data were gathered from the electronics industry.
From the field study we find that business performance is influenced by different competitive mission, but the more important factors which influences the business performance is the degree of congruence between corporate competitive mission and manufaturing task.
