This paper is to investigate non-native English teachers' perception of themselves as a learner and teacher of English. A survey was conducted with 131 English teachers to investigate their perceptions and attitudes toward learning and teaching English. The results showed a considerable number of teachers found themselves unsuccessful learners and unsuccessful teachers because of the gap between their desired and current levels of language proficiency. Those who found themselves successful teachers were satisfied due to the satisfaction with the positive feedback from the students and with their continuous effort to improve their language and teaching skills. The findings also suggested a close relationship between the perception as a successful language learner and as a successful non-native teacher. The results imply that nonnative teachers can be as equally successful as native speaker teachers and that they need to be aware of the fact that the language ability is only one of the qualifications that is required to be successful language teachers.
