국문 초록

최근 들어 급속한 저출산 현상이 우리사회의 위기로 지적되고 있다. 이 연구에서는 한국사회 저출산의 원인을 규명함과 동시에 이를 해결하기 위한 실효성 있는 정책 대안을 모색하는 것이 주목적이다. 지금까지 진행된 출산관련 가치관이나 행위연구는 대부분 설문지에 기초하여 계량적으로 시행된 조사들이어서 개인의 동기나 출산관련 고민에 대해 심도있는 조사를 진행하기 어려웠다. 이러한 제한점을 인식하고 이 연구에서는 서울과 수도권에 거주하는 20세 이상의 성인 80명을 대상으로 심층면접을 실시하였다. 그 결과, 가족가치관과 관련된 전통적 요인은 약화되고 있으나, 자녀양육의 경제적, 정서적 부담, 가족에서의 성불평등, 자녀의 교육환경과 미래에 대한 불확실성, 한국사회에 작용하는 경쟁심리와 과잉과시의 사회적 압력 등이 저출산의 주요 원인으로 나타났다. 논문의 마지막 부분에서는 젠더관점을 적용한 가족친화적 정책안을 제시하고자 노력하였다.

영문 초록

Rapid reduction in fertility rate has been indicated as a risk of Korean society. The major purposes of this study are to figure out causes of low fertility rate in Korea and to suggest alternative policies. Most studies in this field have been done in quantitative ways and thus had difficulties to find out detailed explanations about why young Korean women resist giving births recently. Recognizing the limits of quantitative methods, this study selected 80 adults residing in Seoul and suburb areas and used in-depth interview methods. The results of the in-depth interviews indicate that young generations tend to recognize the economic and emotional burdens of raising children, gender inequality within family, competitive educational system, uncertainty of future, competitive nature of Korean society, and so forth. In the final section, this paper is devoted to the suggestions of family-friendly policies by applying gender-sensitive perspectives.
