영문 초록

The author tried to approach to the issue why the depression is prevailing or even increasing in morden society in spite of recent tremendous advances in neurphysiology and psychopharmacology. The depression has been survived and persisted in human history and it can be understood from the viewpoint of evolutionary theories and psychoanalysis. Depression should also be approached not only as a medical illness psychobiologically but also as a normal response to the birth process, basic separation from mother ontogenically and from God, the origin of existence philogenically. So existential or spiritual understanding of the meaning of depression in one s life course is necessary to transform it into the chance to revitalize deeper-existing faith.
