중국 지식인 시선에서의 조선 패망과 김옥균 - 양진인의 『조선은 이렇게 망했다』에 나타난 역사왜곡을 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 양진인의 『조선은 이렇게 망했다 1, 2』를 통한 중국 지식인의관점에서 조선 말기 정치적 상황과 김옥균의 행적을 어떻게 왜곡된 시선으로변형 및 굴절되어 있는지 비판적으로 고찰해 보고자 하였다. 작가는 조선 패망을 무능하고 나약한 고종과 개인적 이익에만 관심이 있는 관료들에게 있다고 평가하면서 그 이면에는 만일 현재 중국 또한 이러한 조선과 같다면 패망할 수밖에 없을 것이라 경고하고 있다. 그리고 이에 대한 대안으로 위로는 이토 히로부미와 같이 새로운 문명을 받아들이면서 근대화를 이루어야 하고, 아래로는 안중근과 같은 영웅이 등장하여 민족의 정체성과 애국정신을 구현하여야 한다고 주장한다. 다만 이러한 창작 과정에서 주목하고 싶은 것은, 조선 패망 원인을 비판하는데 있어서 역사적 인물이나 사건에 대한 왜곡이 심각하다는 사실이다. 물론 작품이 허구에 기반을 둔 소설이라는 점을 감안해도, 김옥균이나 박영효의 경우에는 왜곡을 넘어 폄훼한다는 것은 확실히 작가의 의도성이 엿보인다. 이러한 의도성은 아마도 조선이 청국의 속국으로 있었다는 중국인의 보편적 인식이, 그에 반하는 김옥균과 박영효 등의 갑신정변이 청국으로부터의자주독립과 근대화를 주장한 것에 기인한다. 더욱이 청일전쟁 패전으로 말미암아 더 이상 조선과 청국의 종속관계가 부정되는데서 오는 분노와 상실감은1920년에 이르러서도 작품 곳곳에 이러한 역사왜곡이란 허구적 장치로 표출되어 있는 것이라 하겠다.

영문 초록

This study attempted to critically examine how the political situation in the late Joseon Dynasty and Kim Ok-gyun's actions were transformed and refracted through distorted perspectives from the perspective of Chinese intellectuals through Yang Jin-in's 『Joseon was ruined like this 1, 2』. The author attributes the fall of Joseon to the incompetent and weak King Gojong and officials interested only in personal gain, and behind the scenes, he warns that if current China were like Joseon, it would inevitably fall. As an alternative to this, he argues that modernization should be achieved by accepting new civilizations like Ito Hirobumi, and at the same time, heroes like An Jung-geun should emerge to embody national identity and patriotic spirit. However, what I would like to note in this creative process is the fact that the degree of distortion of historical figures and events is very serious when criticizing the causes of Joseon's fall. Of course, since the work is a novel, fiction can be understood to some extent, but in the case of Kim Ok-gyun and Park Young-hyo, the fact that they disparage beyond distortion clearly shows the author's intention. This intentionality is probably due to the general Chinese perception that Joseon was a vassal of the Qing dynasty, and the Gapsin Coup led by Kim Ok-gyun and Park Yeong-hyo, which opposed this, and insisted on independence and modernization from the Qing dynasty. Moreover, the anger and sense of loss resulting from the denial of the dependency relationship between Joseon and Qing due to the defeat in the Sino-Japanese War was expressed in various places in the work even in 1920 through the use of fictional devices such as historical distortion.
