예이츠와 백석의 시에서 읽는 당대의 현실

국문 초록

예이츠 시에서의 현실 인식은 약간 우의적이며 아일랜드 민중들에 대한 애증과 속물성에 대한 비웃음으로 나타나고 있다. 그것은 1926 부활절을 계기로 해서 민중에 대한 존경심으로 바뀌지만 이어지는 내전기의 폭력과 광기를 보면서 다시 증오로 바뀌고 있다. 백석은 일제하의 엄혹한 시기를 살면서 그 어려움 속에 조선 민중들이 서로 보듬고 지켜나가던 따뜻한 풍습과 공동체 정신을 시화하고 있다. 그의 시에서 특히 돋보이는 것은 따뜻한 친족 관계이다. 이 논문에서는 이 두 시인의 유사점과 차이점, 그 뒤에 흐르는 인간애를 분석하려 시도한다.

영문 초록

In contrast to the general idea, we can find some realistic view point in Yeats’s poems, which have the fable character in his beggar poems or priest poems. There is a little hate or contempt for Irish public, which changes to respect in his “Easter 1916,” but it again falls down to hate at the violence of civil war period. Baek Seok lived in the severe colonial period and wrote a lot about good culture and custom of his contemporary public. His poems are so full of the realistic life of Korean public in those days, in which the readers can feel their warm relationship. Yeats and Baek Seok lived in the same hard colonial period, but there is some difference in their works.
